The Lahore Qalandars Player’s Development Program was up and running on the 26th of August 2016; we covered 8 different cities of Punjab over a span of 23 days, successfully conducting the trials of over 113,000 applicants (which is nothing short of a record). It was truly an enormous effort and it would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors, respective city council representatives and the whole clan of Lahore Qalandars working on the field and behind the scenes.
Trials were conducted in Bahawalpur, Multan, D.G.Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Rawalpindi and Lahore. We got an overwhelming response from the Pakistani youth who cherished the platform, not just to test their skills on merit, but also to avail the unprecedented opportunity to become a Qalandar, to play in the biggest T20 Tournament in the cricket crazed nation’s history, the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2017.
Sixteen players were picked from each city and put into teams to compete for the T20 Cup played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. Each team was assigned Coaches and the support staff to ensure their mental and physical progression continued. After all, they were about to play at the venue that hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup Final, a place where legends of cricket have fought memorable battles, a ground that every aspiring cricketer wants to play at.
We are proud to announce that the culmination of the T20 Cup gave us Ghulam Mudassar, Usman Qadir and Muhammad Irfan, who will be joining us in the next edition of the PSL. It also gave us 15 talented Qalandars who are on their way to Australia in an opportunity of a lifetime to play against the Sydney Thunders and Sydney Sixers.
