Former South African skipper AB de Villiers is expected to be in line to finalise a deal with one of the franchises for upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2019-2020 edition.

The South African former skipper AB de Villiers remains one of the most sort-after cricketers in world cricket despite retiring from all forms of the game in May 2018. The swashbuckling right-hander has been one of the major attractions in many T20 leagues across the globe. After cementing his place in Indian Premier League’s (IPL) history, de Villiers is believed to be approached by many franchises from Big Bash League, Australia’s premier T20 tournament, and the South African may consider a deal for the upcoming 2019-2020 season Down Under.

According to a report in Cricket Australia (cricket.com.au), de Villiers is contemplating a deal with one of the franchises for BBL 2019-2020 edition. Currently, the 35-year-old has been involved in the ongoing IPL 2019 edition in India.

Associated with a struggling Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the aggressive right-hander has continued to pile up runs despite his franchise’s poor performances in the current season. De Villiers has amassed four fifty-plus scores in his last 7 IPL innings and will look to carry on in the same stead when RCB meet Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday (April 19) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Since his retirement, de Villiers has been a regular in various T20 leagues apart from IPL. He represented Barbados Tridents in Carribean Premier League (in West Indies) whereas also took part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) representing Lahore Qalandars. However, he missed the knockout leg, in Pakistan, due to a back injury.

While there is nothing concrete as of now, it will be interesting to see which of the franchise succeeds in acquiring the services of de Villiers.

De Villiers remains an integral part of every franchise he plays in the T20s. In IPL, so far, the right-hander still possesses a strike rate of over 150 and a healthy average of 40. Despite his regular heroics, RCB are languishing at the bottom of the points table with a solitary win, so far, in IPL 2019.
