SYDNEY: Lahore Qalandars spin duo of Farzan Raja and Ahsan Mirza have been signed by Tasmania Cricket, a Lahore Qalandars officials said.
According to the official, the Australian state association has signed the players for two months and could also be given a chance to sign a Big Bash League contract to represent the Hobart Hurricanes.
“They have been signed for two months by Cricket Tasmania,” Chief Operation Officer of Qalandars Sameen Rana said.
He added, “The players will train with Hobart Hurricanes’ players and will also play club and academy teams during this stint."
“This is also a great opportunity for them to prove themselves and earn a contract to represent Hobart Hurricanes in Big Bash League,” Rana added.
Raja and Mirza are part of Qalandars development squad that is currently touring Australia and participating in the five-team Quin Series T20.
Both the players said they were excited to have this opportunity and are looking forward to earning maximum benefit from this.
“I am thankful to the management of Lahore Qalandars, specially Sameen Rana and Aqib Javed who made it possible for me,” Raja said.
He added, he will give his best during the stint and make his country proud. “This is a lifetime opportunity for me.”
Equally excited, Mirza has his eyes set on the Big Bash League.
“It’s a big moment for me and Insha’Allah, I will do my best to impress team Hurricanes and win BBL contract,” Mirza said.
Both Mirza and Raja were picked by Lahore Qalandars during the Players Development Program. They have represented Lahore Qalandars in the Players Development Program Tournament before being picked for Qalandars development squad to tour Abu Dhabi and Sydney.
