SYDNEY: The development squad of PSL team Lahore Qalandars is aiming to add another feather to its cap in the five-team Quin T20 series, which will commence in Sydney on Monday.
The tournament also features academy teams from Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes and Auckland Aces.
Qalandars will kick off their campaign on Monday against Sydney Thunder Academy team, which will also feature Australian star Shane Watson.
Qalandars’ former PSL signing Chris Green is also among the players announced by Thunder for the tournament.
Former Pakistan pacer and Qalandars head coach Aaqib Javed is confident of a good show by the young squad.
“This is the best set of players who were picked during players’ development programme. They are together for months, won Abu Dhabi Cup earlier and have played a couple of matches here as well,” Javed told Geo.tv.
“Team is gelled well and looking forward to a good show in the tournament,” he said.
Javed, who is also the director of cricket operations at Lahore Qalandars, added that this tournament has a lot for these players and this opportunity can change their lives.
“It’s now their duty to perform and show their skills to the world,” he said.
The Qalandars earlier defeated Sydney Thunder Community XI in a practice match over the weekend.
The batting lineup will have Sohail Akhtar, Bilal Irshad, Shafqatullah, Sajjad Hashmi, Mohammad Faizan and Phil Salts, while Haris Rauf, Salman Irshad and Husnain Shah will be the fast bowling strength. The spin attack is likely to be comprised of Ahsan Mirza, Dilber Hussain and Maaz Khan.
Sohail Akhtar, the captain, says that he is confident his team will repeat the performance of Abu Dhabi Cup in Quin Series.
“We have improved a lot and have tried to overcome mistakes we made during Abu Dhabi Cup even-though we won that Cup,” Akhtar said.
